While it is nice to have improvements to current technologies, like Microsoft seems to have focused on the past few years, I've been waiting for something to come out of Redmond that is truly new and innovative.

Microsoft Surface just might be the new idea I've been looking for. I think there are a number of hurdles still - mainly revolving around the physical touch panel display challenges, but as that technology continues to mature - as it is already doing quite quickly - those issues will be resolved.

I used to think the touch screen (tablet pc) stuff was just a "kinda neat" fad, but, as I happen to be hand writing this very blog in cursive on a UMPC -perhaps I was wrong (it happens sometimes).

It will be interesting to see how well, and how quickly, this will develop. Perhaps they'll tie Surface into the Origami experience too. That would be cool.
