I work a lot of hours but don't like being tied to my desk all the time. So I very often will take a notebook pc with me and connect it to my pda for an Internet connection then VPN into Exchange. At other times I'll connect to Exchange to do quick email checks from the PDA.
The PDA is limited in functionality; The laptop is heavy (even at just a few pounds, it gets heavy carrying it along everywhere) and large. Also about a year ago my wrists started hurting when I type too much. Old age perhaps :)
So, I am always on the watch for new options for staying connected without some of the issues of common methods. I have been watching the Microsoft Origami project closely and waiting to be able to check it out.
Well, I've taken a jump into it to see how it works out for me. I got a Samsung Q1. Not the really nice one with Vista and the solid state hard drive - I'm too cheap to spend that much on an "unknown". It just arrived today so I can't tell much about it yet, except that it looks cool. :)
Actually, so far I can say that it is really light and compact -- what I expected. It also seems to perform pretty well with just the boot-up and basic navigation. The WiFi recognized my local network with no problems so I connected immediately (after setting up the security of course). I am going to install Office and also the software to connect to the Internet through my PDA and test that all out soon. I'll report more when I get further along.
